Mel Hsu and her cello, Charles, are rather inseparable. Although Mel was raised as a classical cellist, she and Charles have been coaxing each other into realms of indie, hip-hop and jazz during their four years at Wesleyan. Her freshman year, Melbegan a string of intimate living room shows with rapper Josh Smith ’11. As a senior, Mel and Charles have ventured into the electric world, playing with Wes-bands Honey and the Sting, and Blackbird & the Cherry Tree. Mel is a sucker for audience participation, impromptu jam sessions and raucous dance parties.
