ARCHIVAL FUN: in December of 1981, Minutemen frontman D. Boon sent an (apparently) unprompted letter to @wesufm asking why there was so much major label music on the station playlist. The letter was only verified after his passing in 1985. I'm not sure what happened in between. The letter is one of WESU GM Ben Michael's cherished possessions, and it serves as a reminder to keep the station weird and freeform. — December 1981 WESU We are an independent record label but looking over your playlist I can't [help] but wonder if you guys are correprate [sic] pawns. Do you play any records from independent labels. [sic] Keep toiling, D. Boon NEW ALLIANCE RECORDS P.O. BOX 21, SAN PEDRO, CA 90733 note from someone at WESU (after 1985): Official stamp. I guess this note is for real. D. Boon was the singer for the Minutemen, but unfortunately he's dead now.

Weekend Preview 10/25 - 10/27/24 this year's Wknd Preview theme is still No Theme. i'm listening to the new Underworld album right now. "Lewis in Pomona" destroys Fcukers canceled on the Shed, so they're doing Shedamine 7 at Beckham tonight. elsewhere Eclectic is hosting Noche de Travesura w/ Latin & Ballroom (also participating in a "crawloween" thing with ADP and Psi U), then we've got Pumpkin Fest and a 'This Ghost of Slavery' table read. slapped together in 5 minutes by: @essdee___

Weekend Preview 10/11 - 10/13/2024 i gotta say, the anachronistic format-of-no-format style is really working for me here. hopefully it's working for you, the reader, because my print letterforms are a bit on the tall side and i still use ballpoint pens like i were an unsophisticated loaf of white bread. the Navaratri festival is this weekend, with vocal & violin music & also dance because i've decided we're gonna keep dance shows on the WP; also Good For Mondays (newish indie folk band) will be at ADP on sunday --> lovingly drawn up by: @essdee___
